Privacy Policy

CSVocab

This English version is a translation provided for reference. If there is any difference between this version and the Japanese version, the Japanese version prevails.

1. Basic Policy

CSVocab (the "App") respects users' privacy and strives to protect personal information.

2. Where Your Data Is Stored

All data you create or study with in the App (decks, study records, settings, etc.) is stored on your device (in localStorage and IndexedDB). The developer has no server that receives this data, and it is never sent to the developer.

The only exception is Google Drive sync (Section 5), which works only if you turn it on yourself. It is off by default, and nothing is sent unless you use it.

3. Information We Collect

To improve the service and the user experience, the App collects the following information:

・Anonymous statistics about how the App is used (analytics)

If we change the types of information collected, we will update this policy and notify users in the App.

4. About Analytics

The App uses Google Analytics 4 (provided by Google LLC) for analytics. This tool uses cookies or similar technologies.

Information that is sent

• A device identifier stored in a cookie (a random string used to tell users apart; it is not linked to your name or email address)
• The names of screens you view and features you use
• When a quiz is started, completed, or abandoned, along with the number of questions, the number of answers, and the quiz settings (range, answer mode, whether text-to-speech is on, etc.), and whether it is the first quiz on that device
• When a deck is created, how it was created (CSV, paste, notepad, etc.) and the number of questions
• Whether the App has been added to the home screen, and whether Google Drive sync succeeded or failed
• The display language of the App and the top page (Japanese / English)
• Device information that Google Analytics 4 collects by default, such as browser type and screen size

Information that is not sent

• Anything you enter, such as deck names, questions, answers, notes, and images
• Figures that amount to performance results, such as accuracy rates, time taken, and whether each question was answered correctly

Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses (they are used only temporarily to determine the region).

5. About Google Drive Sync

The App has a sync feature with Google Drive, but it is entirely optional. It works only when you explicitly sign in with your own Google account and perform a sync.

Scope of permissions

The only permission the App requests is "access to files created by this app" (drive.file). It cannot read any other files in your Google Drive.

The App also does not request permission to access account information such as your name or email address, so the developer has no way of knowing who you are.

What is saved

Your decks, questions, images, study records, and settings are saved as a single backup file in your own Google Drive.

Communication takes place directly between your device and Google and does not pass through any server run by the developer. The developer never accesses your data on Google Drive.

Version backups

Before saving, getting, or restoring data, the App automatically saves the previous state to Google Drive as an "earlier version." Up to the 10 most recent earlier versions are kept; older ones are automatically moved to the Google Drive trash by the App.

Access tokens

Access tokens issued by Google are handled in memory only and are never saved on your device.

Disconnecting

You can revoke the App's access with "Disconnect" in the App. You can also revoke it from the third-party access settings of your Google account.

Disconnecting does not delete files already saved on Google Drive (the backup file and earlier versions). If you no longer need them, please delete them yourself on Google Drive.

Data saved on Google Drive is subject to Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

6. When Using External Services or Browser Features

The following features use external services or browser features in response to your actions. They do not send the App's study data itself, but by their nature, some information is passed to outside parties.

• "Look up" menu
  Opens external sites such as Google Image Search or Eijiro, using the selected word as the search term.
• Text-to-speech
  Uses the speech synthesis of your browser or OS. Depending on your environment, the text being read aloud may be processed on the servers of the browser provider (such as Google).
• Contact
  Uses Google Forms. What you enter in the form is handled on Google's services.
• Excel export
  When saving all decks in Excel format, the library needed for processing is loaded from an external delivery service (cdnjs). The contents of your decks are not sent outside.
• Printable sheets
  The QR code printed on the sheet is fetched from an external service (api.qrserver.com). Only the App's fixed URL (https://csvocab.com) is sent; the contents of your decks are not included.

7. Advertising

The App currently shows no advertising at all, and does not provide data to third parties for advertising purposes.

If we begin showing advertising in the future, we will revise this policy in advance and announce it in the App.

8. CSVocab's Design Principles for Security

The App is designed with users' safety and privacy as the top priority.

• Study data (decks, questions, records of correct and incorrect answers) is stored on your device (localStorage / IndexedDB). The only thing that reaches the developer is the usage statistics described in Section 4; the contents of your decks, per-question results, and accuracy rates do not
• No account registration, email address, or password is required. Google sign-in is used only for Drive sync, and the developer does not receive your name or email address
• Google Drive sync saves to your own Drive and does not pass through any server run by the developer. The only permission requested is for files created by the App
• All communication is encrypted with HTTPS
• No advertising is shown, and no tracking is done for advertising purposes
• You can delete all data from your device at any time

9. Provision to Third Parties

Because the developer does not hold users' data, the developer is not in a position to provide, sell, or share it with third parties. If a system that holds data is introduced in the future, we will revise this policy in advance and announce it in the App.

10. Deleting Your Data

You can delete all data at any time from the settings screen in the App. Clearing the site data in your browser settings also deletes all data on your device.

If you used Google Drive sync, files saved on Google Drive are not removed by deleting data on your device. Please delete them yourself on Google Drive.

11. Children's Privacy

The App can be used without any age restriction. Children under 13 should use it under the supervision of a parent or guardian. The App does not knowingly collect personal information from any user, including children.

Google Drive sync requires a Google account. Please follow Google's rules regarding age requirements for Google accounts.

12. Changes to This Policy

This policy may be changed as necessary. The revised policy takes effect from the time it is posted on this page. If there are important changes, we will notify users in the App.
